I am dirty. I am sweaty. But I hiked the Vikos Gorge.
It took me 8 hours and many bottles of water but I hiked down and out of a canyon deeper the Grand Canyon: 18 km of transfixing beauty from all angles. Myth has it that the Titans were buried in mountains like those and standing in their shadow I would definitely believe that. The landscape was so varied
We’d walk through forested trails that felt like the Northeast USA then come out to an open field that looked like a prairie in the midwest. Mountains sometimes looked like California and other times like the Swiss Alps. I spent most of the ascent using every excuse to stop to bask in the view (and catch my breath). I felt small but never insignificant – instead that I was a minuscule but essential piece of a very large puzzle.
