Back from our summer residency in Greece, OYL is busy preparing for an exciting 2011
Following the developments of our 2011 Artistic Residency in the mountains of Greece, OYL is thrilled to present a new approach to our annual seasons. Starting in 2011, OYL will now be presenting concept seasons in the form of two Spring productions that embody a detailed exploration of a myth or ancient story spanning multiple productions.
In 2011, we delve into Thyestes... The core of this ancient myth is two dueling brothers locked in a battle of bloody revenge and greed until one eventually kills, cooks and feeds the others children to him.
In March, we will be presenting the world premiere of The Killing Room, by world-renowned Australian playwright Daniel Keene which is a work inspired by the ancient myth. Commissioned by OYL in 2009, after 2 years of development the stage is set for this darkly comic play to be unleashed!
In May, our second production will comprise 3 short pieces or chapters, that embody a thematic response to The Killing Room. As yet untitled, this work will be written by the exciting young writer Danny Mitarotondo as both the completion of our season and Danny's first collaboration with OYL.
We have commissioned Danny to write a full-length piece for 2012 inspired by the biblical story of Babel.
OYL is bursting with excitement to share a new concept of our annual season with NYC audiences that encapsulates two daring, thrilling and challenging productions connected by contemporary examinations of the timeless story of Thyestes.
